Parent-Child Attachment Play

The parent-child attachment play programme is designed to help parents develop their understanding and confidence in gentle attachment-based play skills.

Over several weeks the parent is invited to explore their relationship with play, and build on current strengths, tailoring techniques to use with their own child at home. Each week, there is space to reflect on what changes are noticed and wonder about next steps together.

Using everyday items, brief but consistent play can support the relationship between parent and child, helping to build trust, communication, and understanding.

This is a collaborative programme and is offered with the recognition that:

  • Parents want the best for their child

  • Not all parents experienced playful attuned relationships in their own childhood

  • Many parents experience the pull of overwhelming demands on their time, which can make it difficult to find space for attuned play with their child or children

  • Some parents do not feel confidently equipped in how to maintain playfulness with their child at every developmental stage

  • Children can benefit from small moments of a parent's undivided and playful attention
